GED

Next Door Milwaukee
2545 N. 29th Street Milwaukee, WI 53210
The program takes place on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 9am to 12pm or 1pm to 4pm. 
Orientation is one Thursday a month. Contact the information below to schedule. 
A TABE test is required before entering the program and costs $15, but the fee can be waved if in certain programs. This test will establish the curriculum based on the students needs.

Adult Learning Center
​1916 Vel R. Phillips Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53212
This program has 3 levels:
  1. Level 1 consists of one classroom specifically for individuals who are reading at a 5th grade level or under. 
  2. Level 2 consists of one classroom specifically for individuals who are reading at a 6th to 8th grade level.  
  3. ​Level 3 consists of several classrooms for GED prep for individuals who are at a 9th grade reading level or higher.  
The Adult Learning Center is connected with MATC. Students who enroll in this program are considered an MATC student and receive a MATC student ID.  The semester runs from September to December.  
It costs $1 to take the assessment and $20 for the semester.

YWCA 

1915 N Doctor M.L.K. Jr Dr, Milwaukee, WI 53212
Similar program to the Adult Learning Center. Program preps for GED and has opportunities for other education needs. 
Orientation is held every Thursday from 9am to 1pm. Before starting the GED prep program, students must take a Career Planning 750 course.
Bus passes are available for certain circumstances.

Journey House

This program is also affiliated with MATC. They offer basic skills/GED classes for adults in both English and Spanish. There is a one time $10 fee for materials and students are required to attend an orientation and TABE testing before beginning. 
Free childcare is offered to children walking to age 6 while parents/guardians are in class.

Literary Services

Core programs are basic reading and spelling, English language learning, and GED prep. In addition to the core programs is their Functional Literacy sub-program, which offers individuals schooling in financial literacy, computer literacy, and workforce readiness.

New Concept

New Concept collaborates with MATC and the MLK center. They offer a variety of services for youth and adults. These services include GED readiness and driving school instruction. New Concept also helps fathers in job readiness, parent education, and access to telecommunication services.

Milwaukee Public Library - Drop-in tutoring

MPS offers FREE drop-in services for adult learning. Tutoring covers many topics (Math, English, Career prep, GED prep, ESL... Ect.) Locations vary and sessions are on a first come first serve basis.

MATC
Several Locations
Milwaukee Area Technical College offers tutoring sessions in many different subjects for all students. Walk in tutoring sessions, group sessions, and scheduled 1:1 sessions are available.

Milwaukee Achiever 
Multiple Locations
Students are assessed using the TABE test. The classes are taught through 1:1 tutoring. This program specializes in ESL classes and courses teach how to do a proper job search, how to continue education... Ect.
Students attend classes for 16 weeks for 4 hours per day. 
Classes also include a Bilingual Medical Interpreter Program and a Warehouse Worker Program.

Milwaukee TechForce Training Center
1916 N. 4th St. Milwaukee, WI 53212
Located in the same building of the adult learning center, this program is designed to train young individuals 17-29 in the IT workforce.  
Training and placement will focus on occupations such as computer systems analysts, web developers, applications software developers, systems software developers, and computer user support specialists. They also provide GED courses.

​The Minority Clerkship Program
Froedtert and Medical College of Wisconsin offers the Minority Clerkship Program. This program is intended for first-year law students at UW Madison or Marquette University to gain legal experience during the summer.

The Patsy Mink Foundation
Awards up to $5,000 to mothers across the country who are in school. There are five scholarships offered per year.

Social Development Commission-Financial Literacy
This program offers one-on-one financial coaching to individuals. The organization also offers financial classes to help improve financial well-being and increase assets. There is also a toll-free number individuals can call with finance questions and the organization will help with questions regarding foreclosure, credit, starting a business, or buying a home.
