Be Like The Australian Turtle

Do you know someone who does not believe in God, doubting God, or just isn’t as strong in their faith as you would like to see? In the devotion we had here at New Beginnings last week we learned a little about Australian turtles and how we can, in a way, be compared to them. Sounds strange right, but there is truth behind it!

Looking at the devotion titled, “All Together Now,” by Miriam Drennan it teaches us a very valuable lesson.  Australian turtle eggs are buried at all different depths, yet they all hatch at the same time. It’s a mystery as to why that is. We can look at that and see in this world everyone is at different ‘depths’ when it comes to knowing about God. Some do not know him at all, which is why we need to spread God’s word so that everyone can ‘hatch’ at the same time when it comes to the last day and we can rejoice in heaven.
Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.” As believers we should not keep our faith and knowledge of God to ourselves. It is our job to get out into the world and help others get to the same level in order for us all to ‘hatch’ and be taken to heaven together.

God's Plan for Me

School was nearing an end and I did not know what to do. My family lives in Arizona and for the past 5 summers, I have always gone home & found jobs there to save up money. This year however, I had been blessed with a very good job during the school year that I did not want to give up. After a lot of praying, I was given my answer.
After class one day, one of my previous Human Social Service professors came up to me and said that she wanted to ask me a question. She proceeded to tell me about an opportunity at a place called New Beginnings. She said that they were looking for a summer assistant and that she thought I'd be a good fit! She told me who to email and to tell her how it goes. So that is what I did!

Fast forward 3 months... These women that I work and live with have become family. It has become such a blessing to have this experience in my life. It has taught me so much about the field I wish to pursue and has given me the tools to best serve God through my work.

This past semester of college was rough. There were many things that had not fallen into place for me. When I was unsure about where I was going to go this summer, God stepped in and led me the way that he wanted me to go. I am so thankful to know that God truly does have a plan for me.

Got Your Praise On?

All the time is the perfect time to praise our Lord God Almighty.
I’m a list maker, I make a “to do list” for home, for work, I make a grocery list, a list of things I want to clean in my house, and I even make a list of the order and way I plan to clean them.  I have a list of the 5 top things I want to do before I die (I’m down to 3), and now I am thinking of making another list, a list of praises to God.  I could put it right next to my shopping list, right there by the milk and bread.  During the day, as I’m running my errands, checking off my lists, I could think about my praises to God.  I could say them, I could sing them, I could pray them, I could meditate on them, and I could do all this while I’m waiting in line for something, waiting on hold over the phone, in the elevator, when I’m in the car driving.  I could praise God while I’m doing the laundry, vacuuming the carpet, or cleaning the garage.

When I wake up in the morning, before checking my email, or turn on the television to catch the news and weather, I could say my praises to God.

Though you probably want to find your own praises, the ones that mean the most to you personally, here are a few you could use:
“I praise you because you are a loving God, whose very nature is love…”  This praise is in reference to 1 John 4:16 which says "And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.  God is love.  Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them."

“Lord, I praise you, who is just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus…”  This praise is in reference to Romans 3:26 which says "he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus."

“I praise you, Lord, for you are my mighty rock, my refuge…”  This praise is in reference to Psalm 62:7 which says "My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge."
Since God is the God of everything, let’s praise him, at all different times, everyplace, and in the midst of everything.

God’s Plan

Do you know anybody who had their life turn out exactly as they had planned?  Did you know that this is where you were going to be in your life?  Do you make the salary that you had dreamed of?  How about the picture perfect family with the house with the picket fence?  Are you doing the job that you had always wanted to do?  Are you living where you had always planned?  After you stop to look at some of the things that has happened that you had not planned on, you realize more and more that you are not in control.  God is!
Throughout the Bible, you will find examples of how plans didn’t work out for people but it worked out according to God’s Plan.  The story of Joseph comes to mind.  His brothers were jealous and decided to get rid of Joseph.  It was sin that drove them to do this but God made it work out for good.  Just look at all the people that Joseph was able to save from the famine!  Look at everything that happened to Joseph that was all according to God’s Plan.

How about Mary?  She was planning on getting married, having a family, and living her life.  What a change of plans!  God changed those plans for her to conceive through the Holy Spirit and give birth to God’s Son.  What amazing faith she showed by just accepting what God had planned for her!  She truly trusted in God’s wisdom and His Plan.
Our moms here at New Beginnings had plans too.  They were perhaps planning on continuing the struggle to support themselves, to find yet another shelter who would take them in, or perhaps they had no plan at all and was just living day to day in an effort to survive.  What a wonderful thing that God’s Plan brought them to New Beginnings!  Each mother now has a safe and stable place to have her baby.  They learn new skills and hear God’s Word daily.  The mothers here are gaining an education to get a degree and will then be able to find a job to be able to support themselves.  I’m sure that being a young, single mom with no place to go was not in their plans but according to God’s Plan, it brought them here to make a New Beginning.
How has God changed your plans?  In the comments section below, let me know how God has led you to where you are now?
